RAR 240 Borough Walk, London

header artwork

This is a summary, I will endeavour to produce a fuller description and map for the actual walk.
For those arriving by train – Northern Line (Bank Branch) to London Bridge.
For those arriving by coach – District and Circle Lines from Victoria or Sloane Square to Monument. Either alight here and walk across London Bridge ( 5 min walk) or change to Northern Line at connected Bank Station for the one stop to London Bridge.(hardly worth it)

Meet at the BARROW BOY & BANKER (12:00 NOON) Fullers – from London Bridge Station, turn left and it’s ahead of you on Borough High Street at the foot of London Bridge. Leave here 12.30pm.

OLD THAMESIDE INN (12.30pm) Nicholson’s, next to the Golden Hinde. Leave 12.50pm.

SHIPWRIGHT ARMS (13.00pm) Tooley Street, then  at 13.20 onto DRAFT HOUSE (13.35) Tower Bridge Road, one of a chain of 3 in London, with selection from micro brewers. Leave 13.55pm.

SIMON THE TANNER (14.05pm) Long Lane, traditional pub only serving London micro-brewery beers. Move on 14.25pm.

ROYAL OAK (14.35pm) Tabard Street, a superb Harvey’s of Lewes owned pub, ultra traditional. Moving on at 15.00pm.

GEORGE (15.10pm) Borough High Street, old galleried coaching inn, owned by Greene King, so the pub is of greater interest than the pub. Almost next door, OLD KINGS HEAD (15.30pm) up a narrow alley off Borough High Street, a lovely pub with a few decent beers.

This leaves us with Borough Market (16.00pm) where we have a selection of pubs, RAKE; WHEATSHEAF; MARKET PORTER; SOUTHWARK TAVERN AND ANCHOR. Here we peruse the Market, where there are lots of interesting food stalls and move around the pubs at our leisure. We can stay here as long as we like, depending on returning transport, however I wouldn’t suggest less than 2 hours her, there’s a lot to the place.
