Those of you who came to Shrewsbury last Whitsun may remeber the walk around the 'Shuts' in the town centre. The Shuts are a network of paths and passages dating back to medaeval times. Well, Earsldon also has a network of paths, or 'Jetties', only in this case they date back to the building of Earlsdon from 1852 onwards. Much in the style of Shrewbury's Shuts walk I have named and numbered our jetties. Meet at CITY ARMS, at 12 noon

After leaving the CITY ARMS at 12:30pm we walk the jetties in the following order -

  1. THE JETTY
This was the original direct route from Earlsdon to Coventry, through fields. The lower part of the jetty was later adopted by Albany Road, but for whatever reason it didn't adopt the upper half of the jetty.
  2. WESTWOOD STEPS
These steps lead from Albany Road to Westwood Road
  3. KENSINGTON
This path leads from Kensington Road to Broomfield Road
  4. HAWKINS
A little group of paths between Broomfield Road and Hawkins Road
  5. BROOMFIELD PARK
The path skirts the outside of Broomfield Park. Here we can stop at the BROOMFIELD TAVERN.
  6. CENTAUR
This path runs between Farman Road and Broomfield Road, passing the rear of Centaur Road School
  7. CLARENCE
A path that runs between Broomfield Road and Kensington Road near the Old Clarence. There are signs that it was once gated at the Broomfield Road end.
  8. RAILWAY
This path follows the railway line from Earlsdon Avenue North to Hartington Crescent.
  9. WARWICK
A path that runs from Warwick Street to Earlsdon Street through Williamson Court.
  10. BEECHWOOD
A path that runs from Beechwood Avenue to Providence Street.
  11. BROADWAY
A path that cuts through the housing from Earlsdon Avenue South to Broadway.
  12. SPENCER PARK
The path that follows the railway line through Spencer Park.
  13. MORNINGSIDE
This path is thought to be the original route to Kenilworth from Greyfriars Green to Stivichale Common.

From here we can return to the CITY ARMS where we may get a traditional Sunday lunch
