So now we have come to the final walk on our long exploration of the Warwickshire Canal Ring and a fine walk it is to finish on. We meet at Coventry station at 10:30am to catch the 10:42am train to Birmingham. There we change to the 11:34am from Moor Street and arrive at Lapworth station at 11:57am. We then have the 10 minute walk along the road to the NAVIGATION, which fortunately has re-opened after its closure last year.

At 12:40pm we set off south along the Grand Union Canal and after 30 minutes or so we arrive at Turners Green Bridge where the TOM O' THE WOOD awaits us.
photo
At 1:40pm we leave here and continue past the charming timber framed Ivy House Farm to the next bridge, Rowington Hill Bridge, wher a gentle incline takes us away from the canal.
photo
We have to cross a crash barrier and then immeditely turn back parallel to the canal along the edge of a field. We follow a hedgerow through successive fields, heading towards a mast. At the first field, in March, the birds were busy claiming territory and pairing up, despite the inclement weather. I saw wagtails wagging, robbins darting in and out of the hedgerow, buzzards gliding and a lapwing performing its aerobatic display flight. I haven't seen lapwings do that locally for some years: I remember flocks of them in my childhood: so that was a cheering sight. Passing the mast we continue alongside the M40 to Finwood Road. Here we turn left to cross the motorway and approach the charming village of Lowsonford.

After an hour's walking we arrive at the FLEUR DE LIS. It still advertises itself as the original pie pub, although Fleur De Lis pies must have moved out to Emscote Mill by 1958. Since 1972 the brand has been owned by Hollands of Accrington in Lancashire.
photo
Leaving at 3:20pm we reach the Stratford Canal at Lowsonford Bridge and walk north. We pass four of the charming barrel-roofed cottages, which I have marked on the map.
photo

At Dicks Lane Bridge you will see one of those old weight signs alongside the bridge, which used to be commonplace in the 1950's. At Kingswood Junctiuon we take the short arm connecting to the Grand Union Canal, to return to the NAVIGATION again for 4:20pm

photo
Now that we have completed the Warwickshire Ring, what next? Well, the observant amongst you will have noted that we have started the Stratford Canal south of Kingswood Junction. So, in the next couple of winters, we shall follow the Stratford Canal to Stratford. Then there is the navigable River Avon from Stratford to the County boundary just north of Evesham. When we have done that we will have walked all the navigable waterways in Warwickshire.
