All the days travel is covered by a Centro Daytripper ticket with the exception of the short section of railway between Kingswood and Dorridge which cost £1.40.

This was an overcast day with short spells of sunshine and a light south westerly wind, always threatening rain but it never quite did!

This is a flat walk as there are no locks on this stretch of the grand Union Canal. There was some light mud so stout boots were recommended. We are now getting closer to completing the Warwickshire canal ring at Kingswood Junction. We met at Pool Meadow and traveled by bus to the HERONS NEST where we met the cycling contingent.

The HERONS NEST is on the S2 bus route between Knowle and Balsall Common. This is a large canalside pub with national ales, a most attractive spot to sit beside the canal.

The King's Head Bridge at Heronfield carries the Warwick-Birmingham Road over the Grand Union canal. The building on the left, formerly the King's Head pub was completely rebuilt apart from the road frontage some years ago as another pub chain establishment and is currently called "The Heron's Nest". Since this is a relatively short walk I didn't include any times, but at around 12:30pm we set off along the towpath for the short walk of about 10 minutes past the boater's clubhouse to the BLACK BOY.

The BLACK BOY is a canalside pub that doesn't face any road. There is quite a long access road that serves the pub car park from the A4141. This sells an interesting range of micro breweries beers.

After a stop of around an hour we continued along the canal under bridge 69, a farmer's access bridge, then a road bridge, No.68. Here for a short while the towpath becomes the access road for a cottage and farmhouse, an attractive farmhouse at that with its black and white timber frame.

Next we approach bridge 67, a turnover bridge, where the towpath changes to the opposite bank. we pass under a pipeline and come to bridge 66, where we leave the canal and walk uphill, over the railway and past the Terets to THE PUNCHBOWL

Here we had another rest before the 15 minute walk to Kingswood Station to catch the 5:13pm train back to Dorridge. The cyclists left us for the ride home at about 4:00pm.
