Here is what we think is the only comprehensive record of pubs and beerhouses within the Coventry city boundaries going back as far as available records allow. This is an ongoing project so contributions, corrections or additions to this archive, especially anecdotes, photos and media are most welcome. Feel free to contact us for a pint and a chat anytime.

The Shire Horse

Shire horses are the heaviest of all English draught breeds. They evolved from the 'Great Horse' of medieval times when they carried a man in full armour. It is an immensely powerful horse but has a docile temperament. Shire horses are particularly associated with brewery deliveries.

This was a large modern pub on the ground floor of a block of flates. By 2012 it had long gone.
