Here is what we think is the only comprehensive record of pubs and beerhouses within the Coventry city boundaries going back as far as available records allow. This is an ongoing project so contributions, corrections or additions to this archive, especially anecdotes, photos and media are most welcome. Feel free to contact us for a pint and a chat anytime.

A variant of Prince Albert, real name Frances Albert Augustus Emmanuel (1819 - 1861), second son of Ernest I, Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. He married his first cousin, Queen Victoria, in 1840 and became Prince Consort in 1857. The name was perhaps suggested by the launching of H.M.S. Royal Albert in 1854 - by Queen Victoria, naturally.

We have a record of the license of the Coachmakers being transfered from Thomas East to James Ball ( or Bull ) in 1860. By 1862 it appears to have become the LOYDON STORES

From 1919 to 1932 it adopted the name ROYAL GEORGE. It closed on 26th January 1972.
