Here is what we think is the only comprehensive record of pubs and beerhouses within the Coventry city boundaries going back as far as available records allow. This is an ongoing project so contributions, corrections or additions to this archive, especially anecdotes, photos and media are most welcome. Feel free to contact us for a pint and a chat anytime.

photo
NAME ROSIE O'BRIAN'S PUMPHOUSE
THIS PREMISES HAS BEEN KNOWN BY DIFFERENT NAMES DURING ITS HISTORY FROM TO KNOWN AS
1962 1984 CLIMAX
1984 1994 BUG AND BLACK BAT
1994 present ROSIE O'BRIAN'S PUMPHOUSE
ADDRESS CITY ARCADE
From when it first opened in 1962 this was the CLIMAX. The name was a joke conjured up by a brewery employee and £40,000 was paid on the revamp by Ansells. It re-opened as the BUG AND BLACK BAT in January 1984 as a modern fun pub complete with loud music, flashing lights and garish decor. By 1994 the name had changed again to ROSIE O'BRIAN'S PUMPHOUSE! The name is yet another silly marketing man's creation.
