Here is what we think is the only comprehensive record of pubs and beerhouses within the Coventry city boundaries going back as far as available records allow. This is an ongoing project so contributions, corrections or additions to this archive, especially anecdotes, photos and media are most welcome. Feel free to contact us for a pint and a chat anytime.

title artwork

Harnall Bus Depot "Out" Gate

NAME REINDEER
ADDRESS HARNALL ROW
ALTERNATIVE ADDRESS WEST STREET, HILLFIELDS
ALSO KNOWN AS BEERHOUSE, HARNALL PLACE, GOSFORD ST

The name 'Reindeer' derives from the reins used when the animal is drawing a sledge. The reindeer's magnificent antlers make it a distinctive sign, though these days it has a sentimental Father Christmas image.

Little is known of this pub. It is last heard of in the 1871 Census, where it is listed as an ' uninhabited public house at the bottom of West Street, Hillfields.'

Known Licensees are;
1845 Edward Salisbury
1850 - 1851 Richard Makepeace
1868 John Smith
1868 Richard Benett
