Here is what we think is the only comprehensive record of pubs and beerhouses within the Coventry city boundaries going back as far as available records allow. This is an ongoing project so contributions, corrections or additions to this archive, especially anecdotes, photos and media are most welcome. Feel free to contact us for a pint and a chat anytime.

The Quart and Bottle Inn

A quart is a quarter of a gallon or two pints. In the past beer was often ordered by the quart.

A document of 1747 refers to the late Quart and Bottle pub. Three residences and two courts, which included the Quart and Bottle were demolished in 1887 for the making of Queen Victoria Road. It stood alongside St. Johns Church and is thought to have closed as a pub long before that date.
