Here is what we think is the only comprehensive record of pubs and beerhouses within the Coventry city boundaries going back as far as available records allow. This is an ongoing project so contributions, corrections or additions to this archive, especially anecdotes, photos and media are most welcome. Feel free to contact us for a pint and a chat anytime.

The Newlands Hotel

NAME NEWLANDS HOTEL
ADDRESS TILE HILL LANE CV4 9DJ
ALTERNATIVE ADDRESSES BEECH TREE AVENUE

I guess this name refers to new land opened up for farming at some time in the past.

In 1929 the license of the White Swan, Hill Street, was surrendered for the removal of the license of the Spotted Dog, Butcher Row to new premises to be erected in Beech Tree Avenue. The pub opened in the following year.

In 1979 it was ' A large modern local's pub ' and in 1983 ' A modern pub. Pleasant surroundings '.

Known Licensees are;
1935 - 1938 C. F. Whitcomb
1939 - 1940 C. F. Cattell
2014 to present Sarah Walker (see also at The Bell, Tile Hill to 2014)
