NAME CHAUNTRY TAVERN
ADDRESS 20 CHAUNTRY PLACE
The name is an old spelling of 'chantry' meaning a small chapel endowed by a wealthy person in order that masses might be chanted there on his behalf. In 1887 this was said to be in the 'new favourable quarter'. It can't have been favourable enough though as the pub closed c 1936.
