Here is what we think is the only comprehensive record of pubs and beerhouses within the Coventry city boundaries going back as far as available records allow. In the 1841 census John Goode, 45, is a sawyer at the Bell, Keresley. By 1851 he is 55, a farm labourer with no address given

In 1841 Charles Foster, 55, is a butcher at the Heath, Keresley. There is no John. Then in 1851 John Foster, 31, is a butcher and beer seller at the Bell, Keresley. By 1861 John Foster has moved up to being a butcher in Great Butcher Row, Coventry.
