Here is what we think is the only comprehensive record of pubs and beerhouses within the Coventry city boundaries going back as far as available records allow. This is an ongoing project so contributions, corrections or additions to this archive, especially anecdotes, photos and media are most welcome. Feel free to contact us for a pint and a chat anytime.

In the 1841 census the only Freeman in Gosford Street is John Freeman, 40, a weaver.

There are a number of other Freemans in the nineteenth century in the website;
1890 - 1903 G. Freeman at the Bablake Boy
1861 William Freeman at the Coventry Cross
1886 - 1894 William Freeman at the Golden Cup
1896 William Freeman junior at the Golden Cup
1861 - 1868 Samuel Freeman at the Meriden Tavern
1858 Samuel Freeman at the Vauxhall All of theses are either too late or in the wrong place!

1835 Thomas Freeman
