Here is what we think is the only comprehensive record of pubs and beerhouses within the Coventry city boundaries going back as far as available records allow. This is an ongoing project so contributions, corrections or additions to this archive, especially anecdotes, photos and media are most welcome. Feel free to contact us for a pint and a chat anytime.

In the 1841 census Joseph Allen, 25, is a beerseller in Gosford Street. In 1851 there are no matching records.

There are 41 references to Allens in this website. There are no other Josephs and the only one in Gosford Street is James Allen at the Anchorsmith from 1868 to 1871. Since there are two licensees between 1841 and James Allen, this does not seem to help.

Known Licensees are;
1841 Joseph Allen
