Here is what we think is the only comprehensive record of pubs and beerhouses within the Coventry city boundaries going back as far as available records allow. This is an ongoing project so contributions, corrections or additions to this archive, especially anecdotes, photos and media are most welcome. Feel free to contact us for a pint and a chat anytime.

Beerhouse

ADDRESS 12 OLD CHURCH ROAD, FOLESHILL
ALTERNATIVE ADDRESSES BELL STILES
THIS BECAME THE BELL

To 1874 this was the Beerhouse, Bell Green, though already known as the Bell by 1841. In 1960 it was already thought to be several hundred years old and was owned by Phipps Northampton Brewery. At this time there were residential rooms, much used by the theatrical profession when playing the Coventry theatres. There was said to be a well under the lounge.

By 1979 it had become a Watneys pub and in 1995-6 it was closed and demolished.
