The name is probably an allusion to the pub’s small size. It was said to date back to the mid eighteenth century at its closure in 1961. The site on the corner of Cox Street and Jordan Well is now occupied by Coventry University.

17.1.1961 Citypubs 34 The Acorn Inn, the history of which dates back nearly 200 years. The Acorn is now closed and awaits demolition contractors to make way for Coventry's redevelopement.
